Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female to be elected vice president and is also the most powerful female officer in the history of America. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and cannabis legalization which could lead to the citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. She is most famous for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
